It started with a message in the group chat. “Beach cleanup tomorrow morning. West Bay. Who’s in?”
Twelve people showed up. Some we knew. Some we didn’t. Nobody needed a plan — just a bag, some gloves, and the kind of morning where you’d rather be outside than anywhere else.
Why West Bay
Our beaches aren’t just beautiful. They’re home. And when you notice plastic washing up where the water meets the sand, you don’t wait for someone else to sort it. You just go.
West Bay Public Beach was the obvious choice — a place where families swim, kids play, and everyone deserves clean sand between their toes.
What Happened
We picked up plastic for an hour. Bottles, straws, wrappers, fishing line — the kind of debris that doesn’t belong next to turquoise water. Between handfuls of rubbish, there were proper conversations. The kind that happen when you’re doing something simple with people who care about the same things you do.
By the end, we had bags full and a beach that looked the way it should.
The Bit That Stays With You
It wasn’t the cleanup itself that mattered most. It was the feeling after. Standing on clean sand with a group of people who gave up a Saturday morning because they wanted to — not because anyone asked them to.
That’s what community looks like here. Not organised. Not polished. Just people showing up for the place they love.
If you want to join the next one, keep an eye on our community group. These things tend to happen when the moment feels right.
